Who we are

The Break Room is a cafe and eatery at 2 Quarry Road, Hilton, KZN, 3245, run by Lee Hankey. When this policy says “we” or “us”, it means The Break Room. We look after your personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

What we collect

• Enquiries. When you use a form on this site we get your name, email address, and anything else you choose to give us, like your phone number, the date of your event, how many people are coming and any dietary needs.
• Newsletter. If you sign up, we keep your email address.
• Visitor stats. We use Google Analytics and Vercel Web Analytics to see how the site is used: which pages were viewed, how you found us, roughly which country or city the visit came from, and the type of device and browser. We do not use this to identify you.

We do not collect payment details through this website.

Why we use it

• To answer your enquiry and quote for catering, functions or cakes.
• To send the newsletter you asked for. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
• To see which pages people use, so we can improve the site.

We never sell your information or share it for anyone else’s marketing.

Who else handles it

We use a few trusted services to run the site. They only process your information for us:

• Vercel, which hosts the website and provides basic visitor stats.
• Google Analytics, which measures how the site is used.
• Resend, which delivers form enquiries to our inbox and stores the newsletter list.
• Google, for the map on the contact page and our reviews.

Some of these services store information outside South Africa. They are required to protect it to a standard that POPIA accepts.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry emails for as long as we need them to deal with your request and our records, usually no longer than two years. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

• tell you what information we hold about you,
• correct it if it is wrong,
• delete it, or
• stop using it for marketing.

Email leehankey@gmail.com and we will sort it out. If you are not happy with how we handled it, you can complain to the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser so it can tell new visits from returning ones. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google’s opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. The site still works if you do. Vercel Web Analytics does not use cookies.

The Google map on the contact page is loaded from Google, which may set its own cookies. See Google’s privacy policy for details.

Keeping it safe

The site runs over a secure connection (HTTPS), and only Lee and the people who help run the site can see enquiries.

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. See also our terms and conditions.
